Cinque Terre.

A little sea air. A slower kind of day.

Five coastal villages, bright houses and the Ligurian Sea: Cinque Terre is a place to leave space in your plans. Build a day around one or two villages rather than trying to collect them all. A harbour-side pause can be as memorable as the walk that brought you there.

A DAY TO MAKE YOUR OWN

A little shape.
A little room to wander.

Start by the harbour

Choose a village as your base and get your bearings on foot. Leave room for the small lanes and viewpoints, rather than setting an ambitious cross-village schedule.

Choose a different perspective

A guided walk or a boat outing can add context to the coastline. Check the route, weather policy and meeting point before committing to either.

Let the afternoon unfold

Pick somewhere to sit with a view and make your next village optional. Allow time for the journey back, especially if you are staying outside the national park.

A few things worth knowing

  • Check the national park's current trail conditions before choosing a walking route.
  • Rail, walking paths and boat services offer different ways to explore; verify current schedules and access.
  • Pack suitable walking shoes and water. Village streets and paths can include steep steps.
